Evaluations
Evaluations are typically mandated by the court or a probation officer. They consist of
three sessions. In the first, a client completes intake paperwork, biographical information,
and screening instruments. In the second, the client and counselor discuss the client's
history and present life. After this, the counselor will compose an evaluation of the
client with recommendations to the referring agency. The evaluation is presented to the
client in the third session, and is then sent to the agency that mandated it.
Evaluations may also be done voluntarily. They are useful in determining the appropriate
substance abuse, mental health, or anger management treatment for an individual. They
provide objective clinical information for someone who may a problem in any of these areas.
Substance Abuse Evaluation
A Substance Abuse Evaluation focuses on the client's past and present use of alcohol and
other drugs. This will satisfy a court or probation requirement for an alcohol or a drug
evaluation. This includes most out-of-state court requirements for an alcohol or a drug analysis.
